011. Copyright Protection and International Principles
Copyright Record recognises the internationally established principles of copyright protection, including those reflected in the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works and explained by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Under these principles, copyright protection generally arises automatically upon the creation of an original work, provided the applicable legal requirements are satisfied. Copyright protection does not ordinarily depend on registration, certification or payment of fees.
Copyright Record complements these established principles by providing creators, authors, researchers, educational institutions, businesses and other organisations with a secure and independently verifiable means of registering their works and documents.
Our purpose is to strengthen the documentary and technical evidence available to individuals and organisations seeking to establish when a particular digital work or document was registered and to verify its integrity.
022. The Purpose of Copyright Record
Copyright Record is an independent digital registration, certification and blockchain verification service.
The service enables users to register digital works and documents, establish cryptographic fingerprints of their original files, and obtain verifiable records of registration supported by blockchain technology.
Upon successful completion, each registration is associated with a unique registration reference, cryptographic verification data, registration certificates and a blockchain-based Non-Fungible Token (NFT).
A completed registration provides strong, tamper-evident technical evidence that a specifically identifiable digital file was submitted and recorded through Copyright Record at the documented registration time.
This evidence can be independently examined and verified by comparing the cryptographic fingerprint of a presented file against the information recorded during registration.
The service may be used for original creative works, literary materials, academic research, professional documents, technical materials and other eligible digital records.
Copyright Record is a registration and verification service, not a general-purpose file-hosting, backup or permanent document storage provider.
033. Registration Certificates and Blockchain Evidence
Copyright Record uses cryptographic fingerprinting and blockchain technology to establish reliable, independently verifiable registration records.
Each completed registration is supported by technical evidence that may include:
- A unique registration reference.
- SHA-256 and Keccak-256 fingerprints identifying the registered digital file.
- Recorded registration and blockchain timestamps.
- A confirmed Polygon blockchain transaction and associated NFT.
- Public and private registration certificates.
- Verification references enabling independent examination of the recorded evidence.
These records provide a durable technical basis for determining whether a subsequently presented digital file matches the file identified during registration.
An exact digital copy produces the same cryptographic fingerprint as its source. Accordingly, matching fingerprints establish a technical correspondence between files, rather than exclusive possession or ownership.
Blockchain confirmation provides tamper-evident evidence of the recorded transaction and associated information. The registration certificate connects this evidence to the relevant registration.
The documented registration timestamp establishes when the registration was recorded. It does not necessarily establish the work's original creation date.
044. Evidentiary Significance and Intellectual Property Rights
Copyright Record is intended to provide meaningful technical and documentary evidence that may support claims involving the existence, identification, integrity and registration history of works or documents.
Such evidence may be relevant in copyright disputes, academic verification, contractual matters, professional certification, document authentication and other circumstances where the existence or integrity of a particular digital record is important.
Copyright Record does not itself create, transfer or determine copyright ownership. Copyright and other intellectual property rights arise under the laws applicable to the relevant work.
Registration records the declarations made by the registrant and the associated technical evidence. It does not independently establish that the registrant is the original author or lawful rights holder.
The admissibility and evidentiary weight of registration certificates, cryptographic fingerprints and blockchain records are determined by the competent courts or authorities under applicable law.
055. Document Integrity and Verification
Copyright Record's verification process enables a registered digital file to be compared against the cryptographic fingerprints recorded during registration.
Where the fingerprints match, this provides strong technical evidence that the examined file is identical, at the digital-byte level, to the file represented by the registered fingerprints.
Changes to a file will ordinarily result in different cryptographic fingerprints, allowing alterations to be detected through comparison.
This functionality supports the verification of digital materials in situations where the accuracy, integrity or consistency of a document is important.
The evidentiary significance of such verification depends on the circumstances of the registration and any additional information required to establish authorship, provenance, authority or legal validity.
066. Public Records, Confidentiality and Permanence
Copyright Record distinguishes between confidential registration materials and publicly verifiable technical evidence.
Original uploaded files and private registration certificates are not automatically made publicly accessible.
Public certificates and associated blockchain records enable independent verification without requiring disclosure of the original uploaded document.
Where customers are offered the option to publish additional registration information, such publication is subject to their explicit authorisation and the applicable Terms and Conditions.
Information recorded permanently on a blockchain cannot be deleted or amended within that blockchain record. Published IPFS records and copies held by third parties may also remain accessible indefinitely.
Users should carefully review information selected for publication before completing their registration.
The handling, retention, confidentiality and permitted disclosure of submitted materials are governed by Copyright Record's Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
077. Independent Status and Legal Recognition
Copyright Record operates as an independent private digital registration and certification service.
It is not a government copyright office, statutory intellectual property authority or judicial institution.
References to WIPO, the Berne Convention and internationally recognised copyright principles are provided to explain the legal context in which copyright protection exists. They do not imply official affiliation, accreditation or endorsement.
Copyright Record provides independently verifiable registration evidence that may complement existing statutory and contractual protections.
The service does not replace any official registration, filing or legal procedure required or beneficial under the laws of a particular jurisdiction.
088. Applicable Law and Terms of Service
Copyright Record operates under Norwegian law, subject to applicable mandatory legal requirements and protections.
Use of the service is governed by the Terms and Conditions, Registration Declaration and Evidence Terms, and Privacy Policy.
These documents establish the respective rights, responsibilities and obligations of Copyright Record and its users.
This Disclaimer explains the purpose, capabilities and legal context of the service. It does not replace the applicable Terms and Conditions or exclude rights that cannot lawfully be limited.
